相传在很久以前我们的大洞山峦，老百姓叫作“九十九朵莲花山”，也有的称之为“九十九顶凤凰山”。说有一天，一只美丽的凤凰因贪恋这甘甜如酿的泉水，来到泉边饮水忘返。等天庭的神仙唤凤凰归去时，它却被落在了这里，原本100只凤凰，只有99只飞上了天宫，王母问询怎么少了一只，于是便把这片山峦称作“九十九顶凤凰山”了。老百姓们闻之大喜，也把此泉叫作凤凰泉。因为“凤凰不落无宝之地”所以也有一种说法是饮一口凤凰泉的水忘却忧愁烦恼。
